Winter Adventure In Kuitpo Forest

Don’t let the cold winter weather put you off exploring outside, rug up, pack the marshmallows and head for the forest I say!

We had a free Sunday and literally googled “children + bike track + forest” and decided to head up to Kuitpo Forest, 40 mins away.

We chose Rocky Creek as it had bike tracks, fire pits and a toilet. With a packed lunch and the Bic firelighter, we chose a spot and sent the kids off to collect firewood. There was much exploring and collecting and discussion on how best to set up the fire.

We packed a simple lunch of make-your-own-sandwiches and the kids had more fun toasting the bread on the fire than I ever thought possible. Desert was an abundance of marshmallows, with varying techniques and apparatuses used.

The forest was beautiful, a mix of pine and eucalyptus trees, loads of mushrooms and fallen branches to make cubby houses out of. There are numerous entry level bike tracks for the whole family to enjoy, meandering through the plantations and scrub land. We saw loads of kangaroos and plenty of birds, and didn’t come across too many other groups of people, which made us feel like we were out in the middle of nowhere.

Kuitpo Forest has loads of different walks and tracks, here are a couple of great websites with information for you to pick the best place to visit:
