Open-Air Ice Skating In The Heart Of Adelaide City

There’s something pretty special about ice skating around a rink that is right in the heart of the city, complete with full size Ferris Wheel, Ice Slide and poffertjes! I took the troops in for a fun afternoon of skating, sliding and eating.

Running from 29 June to 22 July, the Skating At Adelaide installation really impressed me with their professionalism and the quality of the rides and styling. The free-to-enter festival incorporates an open-air ice rink, rides and entertainment with sufficiently winter-ish food and beverages to help set the mood.

We pre-booked out tickets and time-slot, so before our skating session began, we had a go on the giant ice slide, heading down on huge rubber tubes. The girls did a tandem ride, and Archie zoomed down by himself. It was a quick thrill, but they all came off with huge smiles.

On to the skating rink, and while waiting in line for skates, we measured our feet on the size chart and this helped getting through the skate collection quickly and without any need to change our skates for a different size. This meant optimum skating time!! The sessions are 45 minutes, so we didn’t want to waste any time.

We all managed to stay on our feet, with the help of the sides, There were kangaroo seats to hire if needed, but we didn’t bother and just took it slow at first while gaining our cinfidence. It was actually quite magical staking in the middle of the city, with blue sky above and the sun shining bright. One of those “gee I love Adelaide” moments.

To experience some extra fun while the festival is here, head along on a Tuesday night to the Lurve at Frost sight nights, where you can glide under the stars to romantic tunes. Single? Then head along on Thursday nights to Skate Your Booty, and enjoy R&B hits from the 90s & 00s. Both nights you can enjoy $10 Espresso Martini’s at the Frost Bar!
