As each day continues to thrust us into the unknown, Adelaide Floristry School is using the power of flowers to promote mental and physical wellbeing, as well as allow students to channel creativity during this time- all from the comfort of their homes.
With decades of experience, director Vanessa Miglis offers a variety of courses from those wishing to start a new hobby or graduate as a florist after completing an intensive Industry Ready Program.
Adelaide Floristry School has commenced their online learning program, allowing students to continue their floristry classes from the comfort of their homes with fresh flowers delivered to them to create their designs.
Whether you have no experience in floristry or are a professional florist- there are plenty of ways that you too can enjoy floristry.
“Passionate about the floristry industry, I am committed to sharing my years of valuable experience and helping others achieve their goals,” said Vanessa.
During this time, experts are warning about the effect that the pandemic can have on our mental and physical health- from being indoors, not engaging socially and often, neglecting our passions.
Flowers are too often reserved for special occasions as gifts, but countless studies have long-proven the benefits that flowers can have on our mental and physical wellbeing. Research has indicated that flowers have a long-term positive effect on moods allowing us to experience fewer feelings of depression, anxiousness, and agitation after being exposed to flowers on a regular basis!
Improved moods and thoughts
Many of us know that flowers given as gifts have positive psychological effects. However, were you aware of the physiological effects, too? Studies have found that varieties of flowers can lower blood pressure, reduce feelings of pain and anxiety as well as help with fatigue.
Improved sleep
An adored flower at Adelaide Floristry School is the Gerbera flower. Belonging to the daisy family, Gerbera’s come in a range of vibrant colours from strawberry red to sunshine yellow. But, the most amazing thing about this flower is the health benefits.
At night, the flower discharges oxygen and absorbs carbon dioxide and other toxins found in the air. This is why some students will place their designs with gerberas next to their beds to enjoy better sleep!
Increased creativity
As we begin to work from home, finding a balance between work and what we enjoy is a difficult task. But, finding time to be creative is more important than ever during times like these. Setting yourself two hours aside a week (or even every now and then) for a floristry class allows your body to disconnect from stress, express inner thoughts, and even meditate. It also allows us to get creative, which as we become busy- is often neglected.
So, whether you’re interested in giving a class a go, or are keen to sign-up for 10-weeks of floristry classes in their the Seed, Bud or Blossom classes, there are plenty of ways for you to get involved and enjoy the benefits of floristry.
