You don’t even need to be seeing a show to enjoy the wrath of Gluttony this Adelaide Fringe season. This year Gluttony has stepped it up a notch and brings you the best and most diverse culinary offering down the East end. I took the whole family to Gluttony last weekend to work our way around all of the vendors and have a taste of them all.
With three times the food vendors as last year, there are some new stalls there to treat your tastebuds including The Filipino Project, Soi 38 and Cheese-a-holics. And with nationalities like Vietnamese, Nepalese, Filipino, Italian, Greek and Aussie (toast toasties of course!) there really is something to satisfy everyone, the young, young at heart, through to the discerning foodie.
I tell you what, it was so lovely to kick off our taste test with a FULL BLOWN CHEESE PLATTER from Cheese-a-holics. I could have stopped right there! Filled with cured meats and cheeses, dip, olives and Maggie Beer pate. Yes! I know! Would be the perfect after-show supper.
Next was TOLY Vietnamese and after several taste tests while waiting for out order, I think we tried everything on the menu. The highlight? VEGAN CRACKLING. Don’t knock it until you try it. It was amazing. Truly. And the bao trio and bun salad were my picks for the night. Huge servings and incredible tasty.
Another favourite of the night was the tasty ribs form The Filipino Project, accompanied by the most perfect citrus-ey juice. Meaty and flavoursome, and accompanied by rice and fresh salad, I would head back for another serving.
Molly’s pick of the night was the mezze platter from The Greek Palace and the skordalia was pretty phenomenal. Again, huge servings that would satify any hunger.
Or you could ignore all I have said above and go straight for dessert. This amazing Golden Gaytime concoction from Espresso Royal Cafe was a head turner in every form of the phrase. Crowds gathered as I took photos of this masterpiece, and it was so incredible we didn’t want to eat it. Ok that was a lie, I had to fight the kids off to get this shot. Milkshake, ice cream, honeycomb, doughnut, caramel sauce in a syringe… amazing.
I do highly recommend heading in for a meal and a show if that takes your fancy, but definitely a meal while Gluttony is all set up through until March 18.
