Jamie’s Italian Winter Menu Will Warm with Delight

Jamie’s Italian, in the heart of the city, has a heart as warm as their crab tagliatelle. A vibrant and beautifully furnished restaurant, housed in the old Westpac building on the corner of King William Street and North Terrace, the menu is filled with delicious rustic dishes, using authentic traditional recipes.
I was recently invited to come and experience the new Jamie’s Italian Winter Menu, and decided to make it a family affair. The five of us caught the tram into the city on a Saturday night, which dropped us right at the front door. Inside, was a vibrant and bustling restaurant packed with couples and larger groups, and we  were warmly welcomed and shown to our booth. The kids were greeted with colouring in and puzzle sheets with crayons, and view-finders as their kids menu. HOW COOL!
With kids that love olives and salami, we had to order the Ultimate Plank for starters, which was overflowing with buffalo mozzarella, marinated char-grilled vegetables, various meats, and caper berries and pickled chillies. It was devoured in minutes! Even though it says it is for two people, it was enough for the 5 of us as a starter.
After much deliberating over our main choices, I was sold with the special of the day, a giant meatball atop a sea of soft creamy polenta, with garlic and rosemary sprinkled on top. It was a mighty meal and every bite was absolutely delicious.
Brodie had Jamie’s famous Prawn Linguine, which was the perfect combination of garlic, tomato sauce, fresh chilli and rocket. Generous on the prawn front and rich and filling. Ned also went a pasta dish, one of the new dishes on the Winter menu, the Fresh Crab Spaghetti. With a tomato base sauce, the amount of blue swimmer crab was amazing and the dish was a highlight of the night. Again, a rich pasta that nearly beat him, but he was not going to let any go to waste.
Molly and Archie both picked the kids spaghetti and homemade meatballs, and could not finish their huge serves. They said the veggie-hidden sauce was delicious, and they loved the shake-a-salad that came with the meal.
We all placed our dessert orders and before we knew it, the tomato cans that had previously held up our meat plank, were back on the table, followed by the most amazing dessert plank!! Overflowing with all of our dessert choices, this masterpiece included Rich Chocolate Brownie with honeycomb sprinkles, chocolate sauce and vanilla ice cream, Marsala Tiramisu, Poached Pear with with ricotta, butterscotch sauce and toasted pistachios, and a selection of ice cream and sorbets including green apple, mango, lemon and chocolate.
I can not speak highly enough of Jamie’s Italian, and have been recommending it to couples for date nights through to families and large groups. A must try!
